What types of Toyota Land Cruisers do you sell?

We have a core competence building custom Toyota FJ40, FJ43, and FJ45 Land Cruisers, generally known as 40 series Land Cruisers.  We occasionally do highly custom FJ60 and FJ70 Land Cruisers as well.  All of our Land Cruisers are delivered in "like new" condition, and all include modifications to improve driveability and reliability on US roads.  For example, better power steering, front disk brakes, roll bar, and a more modern suspension.

Our 40 series Land Cruisers are available in three different configurations:  The Classic model, built using the original Toyota 2F engine (135hp), the Sport model which uses the more modern Toyota 1FZ-FE (210hp) fuel injected engine, and our Signature model which is highly customized for a modern experience, using a brand new Toyota 1GR-FE paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.    All three configurations can be compared here and customized to your needs and ordered through our website here

What does "like new" mean?

In essence, we take an authentic classic Toyota chassis and body and restore those components to original factory specifications.  After that, internal engine components, interiors, electrical systems, windows, tires, and brakes, are assembled using new parts*.

*Starting with all orders as of March 2018.

Are they registered like a new car?

Your vehicle will be delivered looking new and smelling new, but it will still be considered and registered as a classic car.  The year of registration, i.e., 1983, will depend on the specific chassis that we used for your project.

What are they used for?

Most of our clients use their vehicles actively as weekend drivers - cruising around town, trips to the beach, camping, fishing, biking, you name it!    While some do use them as daily drivers, they are not intended to be your primary vehicle.

What about safety features?

Your vehicle will behave as intended back in the 70’s and 80’s, but it will have improved performance in steering, braking, acceleration, and overall drivability and comfort - it even comes with retractable seat belts!

The FJ Company models like the Sport or Signature have a modern engine and drivetrain, but they do not have modern safety features such as air bag systems and adaptive cruise control.

Are these replicas or kit cars?

No.  We build authentic Toyota Land Cruisers using an original chassis and original steel body panels restored to factory specifications.   We don't use aluminum reproductions.

Furthermore, we build all of our vehicles using new* Toyota mechanical components (internal engine components, transmission, steering).    Also, interiors, electrical systems, windows, tires, brakes, accessories, are all new.

*Starting with all orders as of March 2018.

Do you provide a warranty?

Yes!  We offer a 1 year Service Agreement that has comprehensive coverage on issues that may arise with your vehicle. Once you submit an order online, your sales rep can share details of that program. Apart from that, upon taking delivery of your vehicle, you will be assigned a company technician to advise on maintenance and to source any parts you may need in the future.

Are you a licensed dealer?

Yes! Classic Motors, LLC d/b/a The FJ Company, is a licensed and insured Florida automotive dealer, with satellite locations in Dallas, Texas, and Aspen, Colorado. When purchasing a Land Cruiser from us, you will have peace of mind knowing that your vehicle will be titled to a US-based company that has met stringent requirements to sell vehicles. The title, bill of Sale, and all documentation will be properly completed and ready for you to re-register the vehicle in your State or country of residence. This helps to protect you and the valuable investment you have made.

How much do they cost?

Our pricing* reflects a completed vehicle delivered to your home in the Continental US**, along with a 1 year service agreement.

40 series Land Cruisers (FJ40 and FJ43) typically start at US $120,000 and can go up to $250,000 for highly customized versions. Please use our online builder to price one out to your specifications.

60 series Land Cruisers (FJ60 or FJ62) have a base price of $150,000. Final pricing depends on features and the power/drivetrain configuration.

70 series Land Cruisers (FJ70, FJ73, HZJ75, etc) have a base price of $125,000. Final pricing depends on features and the power/drivetrain configuration.

Very exotic or rare models like the FJ45LV,  FJ45 crew-cabs (4-door Bandeirante), and certain 20 series vehicles have base price of $200,000.

Please note that we don't do partial restorations or provide "levels" of restoration.

* Pricing subject to change at any time.
** If you would like your Land Cruiser shipped internationally, additional transport and customs fees will apply.  Please note that our 1 year service agreement is void if the vehicle is to be used overseas.

Oh, that’s a lot more than the ones on eBay and Craigslist!

Yes, significantly more. And it’s because our vehicles are built using mostly new mechanical components.

In addition to that, our vehicles are all built with several improvements for comfort and drivability. For example, they all have, at a minimum, a new Toyota 5-speed transmission*, an improved power steering system*, a more modern suspension, front disc brakes, roll bar, digital stereo, and a Vintage Air A/C and Heater.

Lastly, our pricing includes shipping and a 1 year Service Agreement within the Continental US.  Try that on eBay :)

* Starting for all orders as of Oct 2017.

Will I save some money by sending you my own vehicle?

No.  Most customers that send us their Land Cruiser to use as the basis for a project do so because they have a very unique model or a strong emotional attachment to it. Generally speaking, the production and shipping costs will be largely the same as ordering one from our website. Get in touch with us for a more detailed estimate on your project!

So you can "restore" my own FJ?

Yes, but keep in mind we don't do traditional restorations.   We can use the chassis and body of your existing FJ as the basis for a project, but everything else will be replaced with new components.   If you decide to go ahead with the project, we will coordinate to have it picked up and shipped to our facility in Miami, Florida.  From there, we'll take care of the rest. Your vehicle will go through our state of the art facility in Bogota, Colombia and it returns twelve months later in "like new" condition.  During the process, you will receive monthly photo updates in high-resolution. Contact us for details.

What is the process like?

We follow the same process for every custom Land Cruiser that we sell, irrespective of the "donors" condition (learn more about the process by watching this video). In industry lingo, these are typically called "frame-off" restorations, but we take it one step further by re-engineering certain aspects of the chassis and replacing most components with new parts.

We don't do upgrades, paint jobs, engine rebuilds, etc., on vehicles that were not originally built by us.

How long does it take from order to delivery?

The process takes approximately 12 to 18 months from order to delivery. Once you submit an order through our website, your sales rep will advise on the exact availability of production slots. More exotic models will require additional work and will likely take longer.

Even though we've established a robust production process, keep in mind we build custom vehicles using largely manual processes.  Estimating exact times for delivery is not possible.

How do I know if a Land Cruiser I see online was built by The FJ Company?

Be warned! Some sellers on eBay, Craigslist, and other used car dealers are selling classic Land Cruisers and saying they were built by The FJ Company. While some of our builds have been re-sold on other websites, the only way to guarantee that you’re buying an authentic vehicle by The FJ Company, is to purchase a build through this website, or to contact us.

If you are wondering if a specific Land Cruiser was built by The FJ Company, we have records of every vehicle we’ve worked on and we’d be happy to check on a particular VIN number for you. Simply send us an email with the VIN number and a link to where it is being advertised.

Where do you source the "donor" vehicles?

We source Land Cruisers to be used as "donors" for our projects from all over the world as long as they were produced in the Toyota factory in Japan.  The more exotic models have come from places as remote as Montana in the USA, Saudi Arabia and even directly from Japan. Irrespective of where they come from, they all go through the same production process and are upgraded with power steering, front disk brakes, roll bar, and a more modern suspension (at a minimum!).

Do you have a Land Cruiser you want to sell? You can send us more information about it here.

Do you sell used or non-restored Land Cruisers?

We don't sell unrestored vehicles.  Occassionally we do have customers who want to sell their vehicle previously built by The FJ Company.  Please contact us if you're interested in seeing what may be available at any given time.

Can you build a right-hand driver for those of us that live in countries that drive on the left side of the road?

Yes! We can build right-hand-side FJs at request.   Pricing can be $10,000 to $20,000 higher from what is advertised on the website for our standard production builds.

Can you help me find a specific model?

Yes! We can find just about anything. It may take some time, but we'll find it.

US Spec vs. Non-US spec?

It doesn’t matter. At least not at The FJ Company. We build Land Cruisers from scratch, starting with an authentic steel body and chassis originally produced by Toyota at their factory in Japan. Working with this blank canvas, we build each vehicle to specifications that we have developed over a number of years, based on experience and feedback from existing customers in the US.  Whether your donor vehicle is U.S.-spec or not, most accesories and features can be added or removed to create the classic Land Cruiser of your dreams.

Do you sell parts?

We do not sell parts. However, we do source parts for customers that have purchased their vehicles from us.

What are the payment terms to buy a vehicle from you?

We divide payment into three installments. We request a first payment (40%) at the time of contracting, a second payment (30%) before we begin body paint work and a third payment (30%) at the time of inspection, prior to shipping the vehicle to its new owner.  We also offer a money-back guarantee.

Your vehicle will be available for inspection at one of our locations:  Miami, Aspen, or Dallas, Texas.

Can you ship the car to my country?

Yes, we've shipped cars all over the world.  Keep in mind that registering the vehicle locally is your resposibility and expense.  Every country has different rules for importing classic vehicles, so please do your homework before placing an order.

Can you do this with other Toyota models?

We have a core competence building FJ40, FJ43 and FJ45 Land Cruisers. We do occasionally use 20 series, 60 series, and 70 series Land Cruisers in our projects.
